A Little About Mrs. Joan Obiala

1. What do you like about teaching at St. Alexander?

The atmosphere at St. Al's is one of optimism, dedication, and hard work. People care. It can be seen and felt in the actions of parents, students, faculty and administration. I feel fortunate and proud to be a part of it.

2. Why have you chosen to teach in the Catholic Schools?

Catholic schools are known for academic excellence. However, I feel that the greatest advantage to having a Catholic education is the preparation for dealing with life's unexplainable challenges. I want to be instrumental in teaching our students about the importance of prayer, the sacraments, and reaching out to others.

3. Favorite teaching moment?

My favorite moment is when a student has worked hard, accomplished a goal, and feels great about it. That look of self-satisfaction is what keeps me coming back.

4. When did you know that you wanted to be a teacher?

I participated in peer tutoring while in grammar school and it piqued my interest. Eventually, I learned that one person can make a difference. Small things add up to big things in a young person's life.
