A Little About Mrs. Pat Lynch

What is your education background?

Growing up I attended Little Flower Grammar and High School. I began my teaching career at Aurora Central Catholic High School where I taught Home Economics. Then I married and stayed at home for a number of years while my five children were young. During this time I attended St. Xavier University and earned my elementary certificate and worked part time as a substitute teacher. I returned to a classroom at St. Barnabas School where I taught Grade 2 for one year. I moved over to St. Bede the Venerable (my home parish) and taught Third Grade for 8 years. I earned a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University and became Assistant Principal at St. Bede. I held this position for 3 years. Again I returned to school and earned a Masters degree in School Administration from Governors State University. In 1999 I became the Principal at Christ the King School where I worked for 4 years. In 2003 I came to St. Alexander School as the Principal.

1. What do you like about teaching at St. Alexander?

I like the welcoming warm feeling you receive at St. Alexander. This school has an excellent educational program and very good faculty. The students are well mannered and friendly. The school building is well kept and attractive. St. Alexander is a school that is most obviously Catholic first and academic after that. I appreciate the fact that St. Alexander has high standards and expectations. Our students never hesitate to meet those standards.

2. Why have you chosen to teach in the Catholic Schools?

I have chosen to teach and work in Catholic schools for my entire career. I believe that it is so important to be able to teach our children the importance of God in our lives and that our love for Him should direct everything we do. Our faith unifies all of us with the goal of educating our children in a caring faith-filled environment.

3. Favorite teaching moment?

To select a favorite teaching moment is very difficult. I would have to say the moment when you see “the light bulb light up” in a student’s face – especially after both of you have worked so hard to accomplish that event!

4. When did you know that you wanted to be a teacher?

I believe that I have known I wanted to be a teacher since Junior High. I enjoyed tutoring younger students and helping the teachers after school. As far as being a school administrator, I aspired to that when I taught at St. Bede and served as a member of the Administrative team. I began to see the wider picture of the school and not just my classroom.
