A Little About Mrs. Carol Hardiman
1. What do you like about teaching at St. Alexander?
I feel that I am in a unique position because I have been able to experience both sides of St. Alexander School. For 19 years, my 4 children attended St. Alexander’s. Now I am on the flip side teaching Spanish at St. Alexander School. The main reason I enjoy teaching at St. Alexander School is the people. The teachers and staff are all wonderful and very dedicated to the school. Most parents are concerned and involved in their child’s education. All in all, it is a very warm and friendly environment in which to work.
2. Why have you chosen to teach in the Catholic Schools?
When I graduated from college, I was a substitute teacher in Catholic and public grammar schools. This was a great experience because it allowed me to closely compare both educational facilities. The one thing that impressed me the most was the atmosphere of reverence and respect that I found in the Catholic schools. It so impressed me that I decided not only to teach there, but also to send all four of my children to Catholic schools.
3. Favorite teaching moment?
My favorite teaching moments are the “I got it” moments. When students finally comprehend what you are teaching and the pieces of the puzzle seem to fit together. I enjoy seeing the look of excitement and satisfaction on their faces when they realize what they have worked so hard for, finally clicks.
4. When did you know that you wanted to be a teacher?
I come from a family of teachers. My mother and two of her sisters were teachers. I was the oldest of five children and while growing up our favorite game to play was school. Guess who was the teacher…ME. I think that from a very early age I enjoyed teaching and helping others to learn. I knew then that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up.
