A Little About Mrs. Karen Curran

Mrs. Karen Curran's Teacher Web Page

1. What do you like about teaching at St. Alexander?

St. Alexander School is a faith-filled community that provides support and creates confidence in its educators. Teachers work together across the curriculum to promote educational opportunities to challenge students to work to their highest potential. Strong communication between parents and teachers establishes our common goal-the success of the student academically, spiritually, and socially.

2. Why have you chosen to teach in the Catholic Schools?

Catholic Schools provide unique opportunities for a teacher. A Christ-centered classroom promotes the spiritual and academic growth of students throughout the curriculum. The use of daily prayers, liturgies, and prayer services brings children of all grade levels together to celebrate and share their Catholic faith with the entire St. Alexander School community.

3. Favorite teaching moment?

One of my favorite teaching moments was when a student talked to me after completing the novel, Hatchet. He told me that he really liked this book, and he wanted to enjoy other novels like this one. Previously, he hated reading because it had been so difficult for him. This book turned him on to reading, and he wanted to read more. This conversation confirmed my opinion that reading can open your world and take you on a magic carpet ride that knows no boundaries.

4. When did you know that you wanted to be a teacher?

I knew I wanted to be a teacher on my first day of school in first grade. The Dominican Sisters teaching at my grammar school were an inspiration to me. Their dedication and example created a sincere desire in me to become a teacher.
